Mobile Banking in the Maldives
Interesting BBC article on how the banks of the small Indian Ocean nation have collaborated to offer a single mobile banking system, including services such as payments, transfers, and extension of credit. The Maldives are comprised of hundreds of small rural islands making it difficult for the nation’s banks to provide services to many of its residents. According to Tom Standage, Business Editor of The Economist magazine, “mobile banking has been a major success story in the developing world and is in fact ahead of the developed world.” The pioneering m-banking initiative was enabled through a $7.7 million loan from the World Bank. | Via Textually |

Digital Design Bloggers will dig this for sure - WordPress for iPhone has just been launched at the iTunes App Store. The much-loved Open Source blogging app allows for posting, photo uploading and editing via the new iPhone 3G, the first generation iPhone, and the iPod Touch. The application works with WordPress.com or self-installed WordPress 2.51 and will be available free of charge. | Via CrunchGear |
