The OpenID Foundation has confirmed that Google, Yahoo!, Microsoft, VeriSign and IBM are now board members, with the aim of fostering international participation in the “one username to rule them all” initiative.

What some have considered a pipe dream is growing in maturity and momentum. Businesses that embrace single sign on across multiple properties for their own user groups are better placed to take advantage of potential OpenID technologies, and tap into what could become a hugely powerful global community.

Personally, I can’t wait for the day when I can burn my little black book of user names and passwords to the multitude of sites I access.
