The high bid for the much-coveted nation-wide C-block of 700 megahertz (MHz) band wireless spectrum being auctioned by the FCC stands at $4,713,823,000. Since it has exceeded the $4.6 billion reserve price, whoever wins this auction will be required to provide open access to competitors as well as all devices or applications. The list of bidders includes Google, Alltel, AT&T, Verizon Wireless, Cox Wireless, Cablevision, Echostar, Qualcomm, and Vulcan - Paul Allen’s venture capital firm. Bidders are kept anonymous in compliance with new FCC rules until the end of the auction.
