When Phones and Computers Collide: Flash VoIP Phones

December 4th, 2007 by Kyle Outlaw

ribbit logoSilicon Valley-based Ribbit and India’s TringMe have both recently announced the release of their new web-based Flash VoIP phones. Due to the high penetration of flash-enabled browsers, most customers will be able to avoid a software installation when using these services. Communication preferences can be configured to send or receive calls via mobile, landline, or messages via IM, or e-mail. TringMe customers can use the service on a publicly-accessible page on the TringMe site or add widgets to their own websites, blogs, or social networks. Meanwhile Ribbit, whose application is built using Adobe’s Flex, has created a Phone Developer Site enabling developers to easily add VoIP services to their web applications. Additionally, both applications offer “one-click calling”, enabling users to get connected directly by simply clicking a number.
