Mozilla on the mobile web: “We plan to rock it”
October 10th, 2007 by Kyle OutlawFor those who have decided to ignore the iPhone hype or are still trying to figure out how to ditch their existing carrier contracts there is some good news: according to Mike Schroepfer of Mozilla, Firefox will soon be releasing a mobile version of their web browser.
Mobile Firefox is already available for the Nokia N800, and through Mozilla’s Project Joey users can synchronize content such as bookmarks, images, RSS feeds, and video between desktop and phone via an intermediary server. Unlike Safari it is open-source, enabling developers to use it as a platform to build applications while users can customize the browser interface with themes and Firefox extensions. | Via MocoNews |

Safari is based on the WebKit Open Source Project. http://webkit.org/
WebKit’s HTML and JavaScript code began as a branch of the KHTML and KJS libraries from KDE.
The current S60 Nokia Web Browser is built upon S60WebKit, a port of the open source WebKit project to the S60 platform. See http://opensource.nokia.com/projects/S60browser/
